Mahenga at IPL
Apr 26th, 2008 | By admin | Category: IPLMahenga couldn’t believe his eyes on what he saw last night at IPL. What he saw was totally opposite to his expectations. Mahenga was expecting a WWF style cricket where all the players are employed by the league and paid to perform and entertain. Win and loss would neither matter to the spectators nor to the players only to the franchise owners. Mahenga had assumed people would come to the grounds looking for some bat and bosom swinging. After finishing their popcorns they will go back home discussing the script of the match and how it could have been edited better.
But what he saw was cricket! may be in new pajamas but still cricket. Egos were clashing more than usual. New loyalties were being formed. Tension was there on the faces alongside the sweat.
Warrior Warne proclaimed he was leading a youthful side who may be inexperienced but are not without the skill. He proclaimed had now a loyal admiral Smith to his ranks and his team is much stronger. While at the same time making doubly sure nobody thinks he is making a poker face. Then Mahenga Singh saw Warne learning Hindi. Warrior Warne was making sure his war cries were understood by his lieutenants.
Hyderabadis were not way behind. Lord Laxman decided he will lead the army from the front. With Gilli and Symonds at his disposal and Shaheeed Afridi ready to lay his life for Hyderabad, he was confident. Then the war began. Mahenga wouldn’t go into the detail of that here as being a committed reporter he has decided to boycot the coverage of IPL alongside his reporter brethren.
Game ended with Rajputanas and Rajputanias bowing to Rannvir Warne who had just sliced Symonds to give them the victory. Hyderabadi’s were bemoaning how their new favorite son Symonds went from becoming sapoot to kapoot.
Mahenga saw boundaries between countries being erased and also witnessed the new boundaries within the country being erected. But he was told that it is the litmus test for the IPL franchises. One day if the effigies of Yousuf Pathan will be burnt in Hyderabad because he called Hyderabad’s new son Symonds a monkey, then we will know that IPL has succeeded.
